Nutrition & supplements
At The House of Moonathena, we take canine nutrition seriously. A healthy, balanced diet lays the foundation for long-term well-being — from puppyhood through to adulthood.
All of our puppies are raised on Purina Pro Plan Small & Mini Puppy, carefully selected to support early development, strong bones, and a healthy immune system.
Our puppies receive dried sprats once daily as a natural source of omega-3, supporting healthy skin, coat, and brain development.
We also include a variety of freshly cooked meats in their diet to ensure they receive high-quality protein. We avoid processed meats such as ham and sausages due to their high salt content and lack of nutritional value.
To further support their immune system and digestive health, we introduce a carefully selected mix of fruits and vegetables, offering natural vitamins, minerals, and fiber in a balanced and safe way.
We believe in natural, supportive treats that contribute to your dog's health — especially for our lilac and blue-coated Chihuahuas who may need a little extra care.
If you choose to continue offering natural foods at home, always introduce new ingredients gradually and consult your vet if unsure about specific foods. Some human foods can be toxic to dogs (e.g., grapes, onions, and chocolate).
For all dogs on a dry food diet, fresh water must be available at all times. Hydration plays a vital role in digestion, energy levels, and overall health.
We feed our dogs a high-quality, commercially prepared diet that is complete and balanced for their breed, size, and life stage. These diets are scientifically formulated to meet all essential nutritional needs, offering peace of mind and reliable results.
To further enrich their nutrition, we incorporate a range of carefully selected natural additions, including:
By combining trusted commercial nutrition with wholesome natural extras, we aim to support the long-term health, comfort, and happiness of every dog in our care.
At The House of Moonathena, the health and wellbeing of our dogs are at the heart of everything we do. Our feeding approach is carefully considered, with a focus on safety, consistency, and nutritional balance.
While raw diets have become increasingly popular, we have chosen not to feed raw. This decision is based on several factors, including potential health risks, storage requirements, and the challenges of maintaining a fully balanced raw feeding regime.
Raw diets carry certain risks, including the potential for bacterial contamination (e.g. Salmonella, E. coli), which can pose health hazards to both dogs and humans. In addition, raw feeding demands precise planning to ensure all essential nutrients are provided, making it a complex and time-consuming approach.
For breeders like us, managing a raw diet would also require significant freezer and refrigerator space to store bulk quantities safely — something that is not practical for our setup or daily routine.
